Jeong Research Group on Children and Families in Global Settings
Welcome to the research group of Dr. Joshua Jeong, Rollins Distinguished Assistant Professor in Global Health at Emory University. We study how parents and family caregiving environments influence early childhood development (ECD), with a particular interest on the roles of fathers in low- and middle-income countries.
Our team is passionate about research on various topics, including child development, nutrition, parenting, father involvement, family relationships, mental health, violence prevention, and gender equality. We integrate both quantitative and qualitative research methods across all our work, such as for identifying risk and protective factors, clarifying associations and their mechanisms, developing measurement tools, designing theory-based interventions, and leading impact and process evaluations. Our projects are in Tanzania and Kenya, where we conduct field research in collaboration with local and international non-governmental organizations.
Our goal is to generate rigorous evidence that can be used to empower parents and strengthen family caregiving dynamics to help young children reach their full developmental potential and thrive, especially in resource-limited settings around the world.
